Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the second preparatory meeting at GEEF-2019
Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the second preparatory meeting at GEEF, which was held in South Korea, Seoul, at Yonsei University with the IGEE team on June 20, 2019. The meeting was broadcast via Skype (14:30 – 16:00 Korean Standard Time). The meeting focused on various discussions of the Forum, especially on developing a common vision for a peaceful future and the inclusive implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The agenda was a preliminary discussion on holding GEEF 2020 (GEEF ‘s plans on 2020 and GEEF AEARU, plenary session topics, possible joint organizers / partners / donors, roles and responsibilities).
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University prepared a report on the work of the Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development. The document was sent to each participant, where they familiarized themselves with the contents. Discussions were held on several long-term programs, such as “Climate Change” and “Smart City”. The Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University focuses on promoting partnerships for the realization of sustainable development goals (SDG-17) through education, research and international cooperation.
On the teleconference, our partners from the Ban Ki-moon center for Global Citizens (Austria) invited KazNU to take part in a parallel session that is going to be held up to next year in Seoul, South Korea. Al-Farabi KazNU is ready to provide a key speaker with a presentation to speak at this forum.
Al-Farabi KazNU presented the book of the monograph “Smart Cities on the Silk Road: International Experience on Sustainable Urban Development” and is preparing for its final release.
We would like to remind you that on May 15, 2019, the first of four regional preparatory meetings for its annual landmark forum, the Global Forum on Interaction and Empowerment, was held at the Eurasian National University in Nur-Sultan (Astana), Kazakhstan.
At the preparatory meeting in Nur-Sultan, members of Yonsei, IGEE and other branches of universities and academic institutions gathered to discuss the upcoming GEEF – 2020 and the next steps.
GEEF 2019 – The Global Forum for Sustainable Development and Empowerment for Sustainable Development (GEEF) is an annual international event organized jointly with the Institute of Global Interaction and Empowerment (IGEE) and the Ban Ki-Moon Center for Global Citizens, including global leaders and experts who gathers to work together on the implementation of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development until the 2030s.
In the second year of work, GEEF -2019 presented “Call to Action: Empower People, Share Prosperity” as its main theme and proposed 16 sessions on various topics, including universal healthcare, women’s empowerment and sustainable cities.
GEEF 2020 CO-HOSTS is the Institute of Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) at Yonsei University using university resources. The eighth United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, is currently the honorary chairman of the IGEE. The Ban Ki-moon Center for Global Citizens, based in Vienna, is co-chaired by Ban Ki-moon and former Austrian President Heinz Fischer. The focus is on the empowerment of women and young people as citizens of the world to ensure world peace and sustainable development.
It is planned that GEEF-2020 will be organized jointly by the Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development at KazNU, Ban Ki-Moon Global Citizens Center, Institute for Global Engagement and Empowerment (IGEE) and Ban Ki-moon Center of Global Network.
