KAZNU: On March 11, 2019 the Faculty of Journalism of the Kazakh National University held a MUN round table on the theme: “The Implication of the Doha meeting on building peace in Afghanistan” as part of a series of the Model UN-New Silk Way conferences (MUN NSW).
Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development, the faculty of journalism and Afghan students from various universities in Almaty organized this event.
It should be noted that this conference attracted representatives of various universities involved in educating afghan students. The participants learned about Kazakhstan’s work in the UN Security Council for a peaceful Afghanistan.
One of the important initiatives for the peaceful settlement of problems in Afghanistan are the Doha negotiations, where important issues of building peace in Afghanistan were discussed. The Government of Afghanistan, in cooperation with its partners, wants to negotiate a political settlement of the conflict.
The participants of the round table not only talked about how to build a complex system of contacts and relations between all participants of the peace process in Afghanistan related to the design and implementation of new projects, but also discussed the place of young people in the future development of the country. Knowing the success of the peace initiatives in Afghanistan in various fields, the participants could also learn about the initiatives of Kazakhstan in building peace in the Great Silk Road region.
Representatives of KazNU, UN Model, Qazaq-Afghan Association for Development and Partnership “AFGQAZ”, Afghan Information Agency and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke at the conference. Also, Afghan students from different universities in Almaty and students of the Faculty of Journalism asked their questions.
Zhunus Yergaliyev, a Deputy Chairman of the Qazaq-Afghan Association for Development and Partnership “AFGQAZ” stated that he was confident that the future of Afghanistan could be peaceful. The President of the Afghan Information Agency, Muhammad Noori, expressed his gratitude for holding such a round table discussion. The representative of the Foreign Ministry in Almaty Saltanat Sabitova spoke about the importance of the work of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council. The director of the Institute for Sustainable Development, Rafis Abazov, suggested to expand the training of young specialists from Afghanistan in Kazakhstan, especially in the field of the SDGs, E-gov and E-business.
The agenda of MUN NSW round table covered such topics as: youth and sustainable development; education; education for women; the media and youth, the work of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council. Thus, the event was an excellent opportunity to put into practice the accumulated experience, the use of the most effective forms of training in Kazakhstan.
