International Youth Conference “Model UN – New Silk Road – 2025” held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University

On May 2, 2025, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty hosted the international youth conference “Model UN – New Silk Road – 2025,” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
The event was organized by the university with support from the UN Information Office in Almaty and diplomatic missions accredited in Kazakhstan. The conference gathered around 200 students and young delegates from Central Asian countries and China. It took place in person at the Al-Farabi Library, one of the university’s key cultural and educational centers.
Participants engaged in simulations of five major UN committees, addressing pressing global challenges and sustainable development goals outlined in the UN Summit of the Future documents, including the Pact for the Future, the Global Digital Compact, and the Declaration for Future Generations.
Committee topics included:
- UN General Assembly: Cyber warfare and digital sovereignty;
- International Organization for Migration: Role of AI in migration management;
- UNFPA: Reproductive rights and education for women;
- UNEP: Protection of marine ecosystems;
- Central Asia + China: Development of sustainable agri-food systems.
The conference was a vivid example of youth engagement in global dialogue, fostering diplomatic skills, leadership, and international cooperation. Participants emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives as platforms for addressing key challenges of the modern world.
